What is Statsborgerprøven?
Statsborgerprøven tests knowledge about Norwegian society using Norwegian at level A2. The official test has 36 multiple-choice questions and lasts up to 60 minutes. Of the questions, 32 count towards your result, and you need at least 24 correct answers to pass.
Statsborgerprøven and Samfunnskunnskapsprøven use the same curriculum. Their formats and language requirements differ. HK-dir explains the tests; UDI explains the requirements for a citizenship application. Check those official sources before deciding which test you need.
Use English to understand, then return to Norwegian
Read the Norwegian question first. Identify who or what it asks about: a person, a document or a public institution. Try to explain the key word before choosing an answer.
Use the English explanation when you need help, then describe the same idea in a short Norwegian sentence. For example, learn the difference between Stortinget and regjeringen, or between an employment contract and a payslip. Do not memorise only the letter A, B or C.
Move from short practice to a longer session
Begin with a small set and read the explanation even when you answer correctly. Revisit words that you confuse. Short sessions are useful when each one ends with a clear next step.
